What We Do

What We Do

1. Our Purpose and Goal

To implement social justice and a humanistic spirit, the College of Humanities at National Chi Nan University (NCNU) has integrated its academic research efforts to actively care for social issues such as domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and to explore theoretical models of Chinese society, as well as systems, strategies, methods, and service equipment for problem-solving. To this end, NCNU has established a research team by bringing together professional research communities within and outside the university to lead the development of academic, policy, and practical work on issues related to domestic violence. Under Article 2 of the Regulations for Centers at all levels of NCNU, the Center of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Research (hereinafter referred to as the Center or the DVCAR center) is established in the College of Humanities.

The Center aims to promote the research and practice of domestic violence prevention and treatment with the following objectives:

  • The center hopes to become a think tank on domestic violence prevention and treatment in Chinese society and deepen and expand our influence in the international and academic communities.

  • The center emphasizes its research in the integration and innovation of policy and practice. The center proposes innovative models and policy recommendations by integrating social resources and jointly exploring domestic violence issues with the community. The center’s research team provides feedback to assist the progress and development of related policy and practice.

  • The center dedicates to the research and practice of domestic violence. The team of experts is committed to understanding the issues of domestic and gender violence. The center also promotes the prevention and treatment of domestic violence to lead the reform of society.

 

 

2. Approach & Collaboration
  • To create a research platform to plan and propose forward-looking research projects on domestic violence-related issues to improve the quality and quantity of domestic violence research in Taiwan.

  • The center hopes to integrate the internal and external resources of NCNU to build a database of domestic violence prevention and treatment literature to enhance teaching and policy exploration.

  • The DVCAR center looks forward to bonding with research institutes across the globe and collaborates in both research and training methods in the hope of creating impact and visibility in the international academic community.

  • In cooperation with policy-making and field response institutes, the center organizes forums and activities to create communication between academic, field response, and political divisions. The center also actively participates in governmental and civil initiatives on domestic violence prevention and treatment.

  • The center organizes domestic violence workshops to nurture domestic violence-related academic research and practical talents.

  • By combining internal, external, and community resources, the center conducts research related to domestic violence.

  • The DVCAR center conducts other research and training that promote domestic and sexual violence prevention and treatment.

3. Future Goals and Performance
  • To conduct domestic violence-related research and investigation projects.

  • To present domestic violence-related research papers at national and international seminars.

  • To produce domestic violence-related research journal articles and doctoral dissertations.

  • To conduct forums, seminars, and training programs on related issues.

  • To participate in government and community policy planning, advocacy, and legislative action.

  • To promote overseas exchange and collaboration programs.

     

4. Our Promise and What We Expect

  4. Practitioner of theory and practice.
  5. Foster of social workers in prevention and treatment.
  6. Advocator and influencer of policy and legislation.

(2)Advocacy & Development

  1. Short term: The center actively pursues domestic violence-related research programs and reaches out to domestic violence-related academic institutions or civil organizations in Hong Kong, Macao, and China to reveal various collaborations.

  2. Long term: The center hopes to develop integrated cross-national research to increase the influence of domestic violence-related research in the international academic community.

(3) Future Goals

  1. Through collaborating with international academic institutions and participation in international conferences, the international community can understand the progress of domestic violence prevention and treatment in Taiwan.

  2. The Center hopes to shape the role of National Chi Nan University as a university that leads the community in humanistic literacy and the practice of social justice.

  3. We hope to develop a model for evidence-based research on domestic violence in Taiwan and propose a theoretical model of Chinese domestic violence.
